Birthday Girl

I always thought as I closed in on 40, I would be distraught and inconsolable. After all, it’s all over after 30 right? Haha, not quite. Thirty may really be the new 20, and 40 the new 30, so I’m not nearly as upset as I was when I turned 25. That was definitely more of a shock.

As I ready myself to turn 36 in a few days time, I am reflecting on my years prior, and can honestly admit, I have had some ride thus far! I have spent a total of 18 months of those years carrying two precious lives, I have opened my own business, I have my degree in English Lit, I’ve designed my own line of faux furs, and I have grown immeasurably as a woman and human being. I have embraced a cleaner, more globally healthy, living as a vegetarian. I am confident with myself; finally completely comfortable in my own skin, and I blessedly don’t feel 36. For me, age really is just a number; not a feeling at this point. I feel like the person I’m meant to be, and that has no age attached to it.

So 11 years, almost to the day, this time with my THM girls, I headed into NYC for birthday festivities at Mr. Chow Tribeca. Funnily enough, they even sat me at the same table, and what a fantastic night!

I really wanted to feel like it was a party and I was feeling extra girly and fun. I searched for a week for a dress that I thought would fit my mood for the occasion. I finally found and decided upon the light pink Marques Almeida dress that I wore. I fell in love with the exaggerated ruffled sleeves, that honestly made me feel like a renaissance princess. The extra short skirt made it more modern, however, and I decided to spice it up with Brother Vellies glitter boots as I had seen on Net-a-Porter. I loved the idea of having that extra sparkle.

Since the neckline was higher than I usually wear, I decided to wear my hair up in a ponytail and add rhinestone chandelier earrings to bring together the look. I added my Judith Leiber evening bag last minute to hold my lipstick (it doesn’t fit my iPhone X). You can shop the entire look HERE!

Then it was off to the party with my THM beauties and a few of my other beautiful friends. I was thrilled at the end of dinner when they presented me with the most gorgeous cake from The Vintage Cake. It had a sugar crystal crack in it, mimicking a geod and THEHAUTEMAVEN logo on the top.

It was really the most perfect night! Thank you ladies!
